Polokwane, Limpopo — 6 September 2026: Polokwane marked a significant milestone in its public transport journey with the official launch of the Leeto F5 Meropa Route, connecting the city centre with Meropa along a new, accessible public transport link.
The launch brought together Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Polokwane Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe, MEC for LEDET Dr Tshitereke Matibe, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Hon. Constance Kupa-Mabuza, MMC for Roads, Transportation and Stormwater Cllr Desmond Moloto, Executive Director for Transportation Services David Ramakgwakgwa, key stakeholders, visitors and distinguished international guests.
The new F5 route runs between the CBD and Meropa, creating another connection for residents, visitors, workers and businesses while expanding access to destinations within Polokwane.
The celebrations began at Thabo Mbeki Bus Station, where political leaders, stakeholders and visitors boarded a Leeto bus to experience the new route firsthand.
The occasion culminated in an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolising the beginning of a new journey for the F5 Meropa Route and highlighting the collaborative efforts behind the expansion of the Leeto public transport network.
Among the distinguished international guests were Annabelle Andelana Marie Savabaddy from the Ministry of Tourism of Mauritius and Hon. Susan Nakawuki Nsaambu, Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities.
The launch represents more than the introduction of another bus route. It is part of efforts to strengthen connections across Polokwane, improve access to key destinations and provide communities and visitors with additional public transport options.
With the F5 Meropa Route now part of the Leeto network, Polokwane takes another step toward a more connected city, bringing more destinations, more access, and more journeys within reach.
